August 30, 2010 - Climber’s Body Found 21 Years Later

August 30, 2010

Williams Holland’s body was found last week after he went missing in 1989 while climbing Slipstream VI WI 4+ on Mount Snowdome in Jasper National Park. Holland was climbing with Crhis Dube and the pair reached the summit by the mid-afternoon.  On the summit, whiteout conditions made finding the descent difficult and Holland walked to the edge in search of a viable descent route. As he approached the edge, the snow cut loose and Holland disappeared over the side. Initial attempts to recover Holland’s body were hampered by winter storms.

Mount Snowdome is notorious for its difficult summit conditions.

The last fatality on Slipstream occurred in mid 90s, when an avalanche killed three climbers.
