Rifle, America’s west-coast centre for hard sport climbing, received a complete makeover including fresh fixed-gear during last week’s annual Rifle Clean-Up day. The event was unique because unlike conventional clean-ups, volunteers also re-equipped old routes, updated existing trails and added benches at the base of many walls. This level of crag stewardship may become more common with climbing’s increasing popularity and the subsequent pressure on frontcountry climbing areas. More details here.
