June 20, 2011- Trotter Establishes Difficult New Free Route on The Chief

Demonstrating the form that has made him one of Canada's top rock climbers, Sonnie Trotter has just freed an old aid route on the Pan Wall on The Chief.

Demonstrating the form that has made him one of Canada’s top rock climbers, Sonnie Trotter has just freed an old aid route on the Pan Wall on The Chief.  The five-pitch route The Edge of Pan  now goes free at 5.13-, but was originally graded 5.8 A3 when it was first climbed in 1983.

Trotter say, “The climb goes at 5.13-, no easier, no harder [and] it’s a prime candidate for an onsight because it’s so sustained.  All you need is a decent head on your shoulders and strong legs.”
