Canadian Rockies climbing legend Geoff Powter has been awarded the Summit of Excellence award at the 2012 Banff Mountain Book and Film Festival. Powter is a journalist and clinical psychologist and has been an important figure in Canadian Rockies climbing for over 25 years. Over the decades he has led 13 expeditions to the Himalaya, spent 13 years as editor the Canadian Alpine Journal been head of the Canadian Himalayan foundation for seven years.
