Arc’teryx Climbing Academy is a Success for Climbers

The Arc’teryx Climbing Academy took place in Squamish between July 14 and 17. The event brought top climbers from around the world to teach clinics and give presentations to big crowds. It all started on Thursday with a talk by Peter Croft in downtown Squamish. In front of hundreds of climbers, Croft told jokes and stories from the earlier times of West Coast climbing. During the day, he climbed with sender Tony McLane on the splitter Daily Planet 5.12.

Over the next few evenings, Jon Siegrist, Kate Rutherford, Paul McSorley, Ines Papert and David Allfrey gave talks at the top station of the Sea to Sky Gondola to packed audiences. During the days, Will Gadd, Jesse Huey, McSorley, Jen Olson, Raphael Slawinski, Will Gadd and other Arc’teryx climbers gave full-day clinics on a number of disciplines, from alpine techniques to aid climbing and mental training. Still in its early years, the Academy is improving every year with new events and more diverse clinics. Before teaching a clinic on strength, Siegrist made the third ascent of Spirit of the West 5.14a in Paradise Valley with first ascender Tom Wright. It’s a great time for climbers of all experience levels and we can’t wait for next year’s. For more info see here.
