Canadians Win North American Ice Championships

Canadians Gord McArthur, Rebecca Lewis, Nathan Kutcher, Noah Beek and Ineke Rhebergen are at the 2017 Ice Climbing World Cup circuit stop in Durango. Noah Beek, 20, of B.C. dominated the North Americans and finished second overall going into Semis on Friday and fourth heading into Finals.

As the only Norther American in Finals for men or women, he finished seventh and won the North American Championships. In second for men in the North American Championships was Kevin Lindlau of the U.S.A. and in third was Wes Fowler of the U.S.A. Canadian Ineke Rhebergen won the North American Championships for women, Ontario climber Rebecca Lewis came in second and American Kendra Stritch in third.

Overall, McArthur and Kutcher finished Semis tied in 15th for men, Rhebergen finished in ninth and Lewis in 12th for women. Russia dominated the men’s podium with Alexey Dengin in first, Nikolai Kuzovlev in second and Maxim Tomilov in third. For women, Woonseon Shin of Korea finished first, Italian Angelika Rainer got second and Irish climber Eimir McSwiggan finished in third. For full results visit here.
