IFSC 2016 World Cup: Mascarenas and Kokoro Win, Canadian Results

The only IFSC World Cup to take place in North America wrapped up on June 11 in Vail. A number of Canadians made the trip, including Elise Sethna (finished 38th), Eric Sethna (47th), Sean McColl (6th), Alannah Yip (25th), Andre DeFelice (31st), Stacey Weldon (17th), Allison Vest (28th), Pia Graham (40th), Lia Wieckowski (40th), Jason Holowach (29th), Will Johnson (51st), Gavin Johnson (53rd) and Scott Williams (53rd). McColl made it to Finals where impressed with a number of big moves, but in the end was bested by two top Russian climbers and three Japanese. Weldon advanced to Semis and finished in 17th, she wrote on her social media after the event, “This problem was so much fun. Such an amazing experience to be able to climb in the semi-final here in Vail and was able to walk away with 17th place. So stoked. Thanks so much to everyone for all the love and support. I’m so lucky!”

American Megan Mascarenas crushed the World Cup with four top outs in Finals, the most of any Female. Shauna Coxsey finished in second and clinched the overall 2016 World Cup title. Kokoro Fujii, who won the Mumbai World Cup, took his second win of the year. Currently ranked third overall, he is nearly tied for second with Rustam Gelmanov, but is far off Jongwon Chon’s first place score. Vail has been so rad! Having the chance to be the smack dab in the middle of the action and see this awesome crew do their thing, and, shoot the biggest climbing event of my career this weekend, was an honour! Couldn't have done it without the help of @climbcanada and @grippedmagazine. A huge thank you to those guys, and for everyone who helped make Vail possible for me! ?: Team Canada, moments after finals ended at #ifscwc Vail, Colorado. #climbing | #ifsc | #grippedmagazine | #climbcanada | #vail | #worldcup | #livewild | #colorado | #climbingnation | #mammut | #canada | #bouldering | #comp | #radcrew | #abouttimetoclimb | #skratchthesummit | #skratchlabs | #vail2016 | #gopromountaingames | #gopro | #shotoncanon | @grippedmagazine | @climbcanada | @skratchlabs | @mountaingamesvail | @racedayfuel
