Peter Croft Opens Arc’teryx Climbing Academy With Presentation

The event kicks off at the O’Siem Pavilion Park in downtown Squamish on Thursday evening July 14, with a screening of The Enchanting Triple, a climbing journey through the Stuart Range, followed by a keynote presentation by legendary free soloist Peter Croft, and a live performance by one of Canada’s most popular indie rock bands, Yukon Blonde. Gripped editor Brandon Pullan will be emceeing the event.

“I’m super excited to attend the Arc’teryx Climbing Academy and return to the granite of Squamish, the place where it all started for me,” said Peter Croft, master climber and early instigator of the Yosemite free soloing movement. “I’m really looking forward to catching up with old friends, making some new ones and learning a thing or two.”

The Academy is now in its second year and the popular four-day climbing event expects to draw hundreds of climbing enthusiasts from around the world to learn new skills and scale legendary Squamish routes. On Friday afternoon, the Sunset Speaker Series venue shifts to the elevated open air of the Sea to Sky Gondola Sun Deck for an intimate evening of presentations, films and music. International climbers, Jonathan Siegrist and Kate Rutherford will inspire with their stories of risk, failure, and success.

On Saturday, the daytime festivities relocate to the parking area beneath The Chief for the annual SAS/CASBC Trail Build, the vendor trade fair, slackline demos, yoga and more. In the evening the action moves back up the mountain to the Sea to Sky Gondola Sun Deck for Sunset Speaker presentations by Paul McSorley and Ines Papert, Dave Allfrey’s Haywire and a live music set by indie band, Bear Mountain.
