Sean McColl Wins 2016 Villars World Cup

Sean McColl has won the first-ever World Cup to take place in Villars, Switzerland. He was one of many Canadians who travelled to Europe last week for back-to-back World Cups, the first being in Chamonix. After the win, he said, “Exhilarated to have taken the gold medal at this World Cup! This World Cup started with a bad climb which forced myself to re-group. After that, I never climbed better in my life. There were many different pieces of this puzzle that aided in my victory this weekend although in the end I still needed to stay calm, climb my best and avoid making mistakes.” Janja Garnbret won in Chamonix and took first place for the women in Villars.

Other Canadians who competed include Becca Frangos, Annie Chouinard, Elan Jonas McRae, Nathan Smith, Matt Wellington and Rahul Sapra. This is the first time the IFSC has scheduled World Cups only three days apart. McColl’s last Lead podium finish was at the Kranj in 2015 when he finished second. He is currently ranked number one for Lead World Cups in 2016 and fifth overall.

Female / Male Finals Results
