Hi

I’m really interested in doing lots of this straight away. I have a chainsaw and a gas powered whipper-snipper I use to clear a path to the top and then reach down part of the face with the whipper snipper. I’m not so experienced, and have only done a few routes so far, but lowering the saw on a rope to cut some stuff low down the face, the blade keeps skipping off the cliff and there were sparks when it hit a piton or some shit like that. Is it safe to rap with the saw going? Or should I use weights on the saw???Presentational Image! Happy cleaning!!

that mask and apron look like good safety gear. do you wear your harness on top of them. Maybe there are some openings for your belay loop?

Hello from the SAS,

How many people want the tree chopped at the base of the Split ?   (sorry about the western bias, and extreme example… I’ve heard musings, but that’s it… I promise…)

Anyway ,the Squamish Access Society (squamishaccess.ca) is interested in your view on route maintenance.   Kevin McLane, myself and numerous others have been involved with mostly political access issues over the last few years, but also gritty on-the-rock-and-trail stuff.  We anticipate a pretty active role on the actual route maintenance and route revival front in the near future.  Scrubbing old routes, maintaining existing ones…. This will involve community involvement, and will not be without controversy.  A certain critical mass has been reached where local climbing communities will need to create some sort of management scheme (among themselves, as well as with other community stakeholders) to figure out scrubbing, anchor type/position, etc….

Currently at squamishaccess.ca, we have no offical list (as purported earlier). but it is fully on the radar.

I encourage everyone who climbs in Squamish to stay involved as issues creep up on this forum and others.

Cheers,

Tyrone Brett

Anyone know what saw he is running?

I always thought Leatherface was a Stihl man but this looks like a Husky.

You want a list of worthwile objectives? I’ve got loads.

BTW it looks as though leatherface is running a Husky 395. Good choice, lots of power. I’m still makin’ do with my little McCulloch… and lots of elbow grease.

Did anyone else happen to notice that the North gully on the Chief now goes all the way down to the road? Ah the power of Mother nature is something to behold! The tree start to Angel’s Crest was ten feet from being erased. You can almost see if anyone is on the first pitch without getting out of your car!
