Best place to have a tick removed is the vet. Mine charges me .00. Same as my dogs.

I’m thinking of ordering one of these tick removers…

http://www.thetickremover.com/

They were designed in Sweden - where they have more tick problems than we do on the West Coast.  Careful and quick removal is what it’s all about, apparently.  Good for people, dogs, cats, etc.

I wouldn’t have to wait to make it into my vet - what if I had to wait a couple of days.  Ugh.  This tick remover sounds like a good idea.

Hey Trent

A couple years ago, in late spring, I was bushwhacking around Horne Lake without a shirt on.  The next day I found a tick firmly lodged in my stomach.  Horne is a notoriously bad area for ticks.

Every time I’ve tried to pull ticks out I’ve failed miserably.  The internet holds much wisdom on the subject and I’ve tried most of the techniques for twisting them out: counter-clockwise, clockwise, a little bit of counter-clockwise mixed in with a bit of clockwise…
They are fiesty little guys and will hold on for dear life.  Almost always you end up decapitating the tick and having to poke around with tweezers to get the rest of it out.  Not fun.

Apparently the new and approved technique is to pull them straight out, which avoids the twisting jiggery pokery.  Remember, there is lyme’s disease in these parts so it might not be a bad idea to get the antibiotics.

I’ve had a few ticks and there’s nothing wrong with me to the best of my knowledge.

You gotta pull them straight out but take your sweet time. Eventualy the tick loses its lock on you and comes out. Don’t force it. Do it nice and slow, like a gentleman.

Just on the off chance that anyone still actually reads this forum…

Maybe I’m a bit more into exploring and thrashing than most climbers, but last week I made it home from a climbing adventure to find a tick firmly implanted in my ribs.  As I wait for symptoms of Lyme disease to appear, I am wondering how many climbers out there have had brushes with our small, barbed, ten-legged friends.  Surely not EVERY climber who has ever had a tick has ended up plagued with numerous bizarre diseases?  This is the second time for me (maybe I should start sticking to areas with trails), hopefully I’ll be as disease-free this time as last.

Trent.

a few years ago i did a trek through the jungle in Bolivia–7 days in all.  i wore a long sleeved shirt and long pants.  at the end i found five ticks feasting on me.  i removed them all with no ill effects.

good luck to you.

Their favorite spots are the inside of the thighs, the groin area, and your head.

The ticks are definitely out around Hope right now. Got 3 last week, fortunately none burrowed in.

Years ago I was climbing in Skaha and at the end of the day, while taking off my pants for a shower, found a tick crawling up out of my pubes where it seemed to have been lost for hours…
