Is it preferable or necessary to have a double ropes for the descent off of Snowpatch spire? The book says it is, my friend says it isn’t??

Fat guys can climb….

I’m 99% sure its not necessary but IMHO its preferable.  The small amount of extra time and effort it takes to lug up another rope (maybe 3 minutes per pitch?) is saved by halving the number of raps.

I rapped the Kraus-McCarthy with two ropes and remember plenty of stations…which of course might be occupied with parties climbing the route (another reason for two ropes)

clear as mud?

I remember we used 2 ropes to abseil the Kraus-McCarthy as well which was very speedy.

Climb on twins then you always have 2 ropes anyways.

I rapped the Kraus-McCarthy this season with one rope.  A party was rapping behind us on double ropes and we were definitely much quicker.  I think that, where you have solid anchors every 30m, you are better off using just one rope.  No knots to get stuck, less rope to get tangled, etc.  Thoughts?
