This is Jesse from the Toronto Climbing Academy.  I wanted to let you know about our “Halloween Send-Fest” climbing competition that is set for November 3rd, 2007.
The competition is the Saturday of Halloween, so of course, we’re asking people to use that left over Halloween costume a second time to enter the TCA costume contest, get down to the DJ who will be spinning all night, enter the routes and bouldering competition, as well as sign up for our first-ever dyno competition.  After the Send-Fest, the crew will be heading around the corner to the Blue Moon to celebrate their projects, tell accounts of laudable epics, and jam to Toronto’s own Roflcopter.
The Send-Fest is primarily a competition to promote competitive climbing, solidify the Ontario-based climbing community, familiarize climbers with sponsors, and get everyone “back to our routes”.  Most of all, we want people to throw down at an awesome event.

In recent years, the burst in bouldering has somewhat overshadowed the other disciplines and entities of climbing (i.e. Sport, Trad, Alpine Mountaineering, Ice/Mixed) so we want to encourage people to get back on gear, and celebrate climbing holistically.

Registration is at 3pm
Comp starts at 4pm
Pre-register before Oct 27th is
After/at the door -

Boudering, Routes, DYNO, Costume contest
Kids, Beginner, Intermediate, Open

Give us a call if you have any questions.

Hope to see you sending hard on the 3rd!

I received some feedback about our competition’s conflicting timeframe with the Tour De Bloc, and wanted to clarify and let people know that the TCA Send-Fest is on Saturday Nov 3rd, whereas the Tour De Bloc is on Sunday Nov 4th. Both will be amazing events, and have great turnouts, so don’t worry.
For some, the drive to Toronto will be closer than the drive to Laval.
Our decision for the event spawned from the TCA’s break in bookings, staff availability, DJ/Band/Bar availability, and the weekend of Halloween theme, and is not meant to detract from the tour.
Hope to see everyone throwin down on the 3rd!

I am a little confused as to why you would schedule an event the same weekend as a tour de bloc event.  Although, I agree with your comment that there will be a great turn out at both events and understand that scheduling does play a huge part in planning an event such as a competition.

However…..

If you notice the schedule for the tour, there are allot of gaps with tons of time that there are no comps at all.  I dont understand why you would not have choose a date that jives a little better with other competition scheduling.

I think we (the climbing community) needs to work together a little more to help build this whole competition scene and not create competitions between individual gyms. Even if you dont believe in the Tour De Bloc (I have no idea why you wouldnt), it would be nice if we could all attend all events.  The winter season is so long here in Canada.

Also, anyone who is serious about their placing in the tour will very likely not attend the comp in Toronto because of precious energy output required to attend two comps in one weekend and drive insane distances between the two.  If they were seperate weekends, this would not be an issue at all.

Just my 2-cents.

if you are hardcore and will drive 6 hours because you are counting your TdB comp points that is awesome! I’m going to dress up and go to TCA because either way Laval is too far for me.

Hey Guys,

It’s only for the comp if you preregister by the 27th, that’s this Saturday…. you’ll have all day, the gym closes at 10pm! come in, call in, whatever helps! it’s after that!

As for the format, don’t know yet… probably like the last one in February? … you’re going to have to ask Jesse, since he’s organizing this big event!

Thanks!
