This is for anyone who read the Weldon Sisters interview in the emag and is thinking of climbing in Ecu sometime in their life.

In the last question I stated we were headed to Cenca to search for some rock we had heard about… there is no such place.  It is called Cuenca, and is in the south.

Vikki and I are here now and it is amazing… a climbers paradise. (There are even hot springs)

Ok, hope that clears everything up.

Stacy,

Thank you for the update.

I will be travelling through Ecuador in the next couple of months and I am hoping to do some climb there.  I am wondering if there is camping near the good climbing areas or if hostels/guest hostels are the better means of accomodation?  Also, does one need a vehicle to access the climbing areas?

Any info you could provide with be great.

Thanks again,

Brett

Hey Bert.

Im not sure about camping in Cuenca, but Im heading back there in about a week, so I can ask my friends there.  My sister and I stayed in a little hostel for 5$ a night.  Its called La Casa Cuencana, and is on Calle Larga y Hermano Miguel.  Its by the river, and about a 20min walk from MonoDedo… the climbing store where you can get info on climbing.

As for a car, I would be helpful, but there are busses.  I for one, would not want to drive in Cuenca…

Send me an email, staceyweldon@hotmail.com and I can give you more info.
