Well said Dan, and you have read in my mind. I was debating on how I will run our TdB at The Vsion this year.

On March 29th in Canmore, Alberta the Tour de Bloc format at The Vsion will be as follow:

1- On-sight qualification round: 6 problems, point per hold. 4 minutes on / 4 minutes off.

2- On-sight Final round: 4 problems, zone format. 5 minutes on / 5 minutes off.

There will be only two categories: Advanced and Open.

More detail and registration will come soon on our website http://www.thevsion.com

Dan you have brough up a very important point, the extra cost of registration that can be use to buy camera for the tour or forming judges… To all competitors, if Juniors are willing to pay for an annual registration fee, I am positive that as a adult you are able to pay a minimum fee for competing to support our system. It is funny to ask this publictly, all other people from other country reading this and have to pay a fee to compete every year, they probably said Canadian are really cheap and don’t care to invest in their system. Anyways this could be on another debates.

Cheers Dan for bringing all this up.

What is being said is that there should be a mandatory fee to register with the CEC.  Being registered with the CEC would enable you to compete in sacnctioned Open competitions and have your points tracked.  You would only be required to pay this fee to compete in the Open category, not for the Rec/Advanced/Masters categories should the competition organizer choose to have these categories.

Dan,

I generally agree with most of the points that you’ve made, especially those regarding the need to have a fair appeals process.

However, I can’t agree with having to pay the CEC registration fee to climb in the Open category (or do people already?).  If a strong local competitor wants to climb in an Open at a local comp, and has no interest in the Tour (and thus could care less about having their points tracked), they should still be able to climb in the Open without being punished by an additional fee for services they won’t use.  To relegate these climbers to a less competitive category (where they would have an unfair advantage) seems silly.

At least that’s what I think at the moment.  maybe it’ll change in a few minutes.
