I honestly can’t believe I’m not hooked up with someone that has a decent woody, either - maybe everyone uses their garages in Vancity, or something…  If anyone has a decent garage wall they want to let me use, let me know!

A friend of mine forwarded me this website link describing virtually the exact bouldering co-op I envision for Vancouver.  Take a look!

http://slo-opclimbing.org/index.html

It’s hard to say how much a similar space would cost in Vancouver, or how many people would sign up as charter members, but I can’t see ANY reason why 30 people couldn’t get together, sign a lease on a space, and buy the materials to build something like this.

Thanks for the BatCave update, Noah - I’d love to see it in person if I’m ever out that way.

That’s a sweet wall.

My brother built a woodie in his garage in a single day. It’s literally 10×8 square feet, 10 ft ceilings, which isn’t that much room, but the wall ended up being a simple 45 with 3 4×8 sheets of plywood and a three foot kickboard so it ends up being 12 ft of climbing. It was pretty cheap. You just need lumber, 3/4 inch ply, expansion bolts, wood screws, some elbow grease and maybe a few hundred bucks for materials. Then buy a few holds, go hit up Cliffhanger or The Edge for old holds, and you’re golden. Maximum investment is 0. The only real question is space… you can download instructions from moonclimbing and also metolius I think.

It’s been totally worth it, saving the money in gym fees easily pays the investment, and then you get strong during the winter on your own time…
