Hey, what’s the status on that construction to Whistler now? Is it all 2-lane yet? Where are the bottlenecks?

Any changes in access around Squamish lately?

Hi,

We’ve contacted Parks for confirmation of the time-line they posted on their site for Murrin.  Driving by there today, the original date for a re-open of March 9th looks unlikely.  We’ll post on squamishaccess.ca

Desire and the Dump boulders were blasted last night, as expected. RIP.  We will continue to try to coordinate with the highway contractor on protecting the Drive By and Porn boulders from un-necessary impact, but all it takes is an accidental swipe from heavy machinery.

Chief parking is open as is Apron parking (despite the mound of debris), and we have requested and hope that Parks or the highway contractor post signage to that effect.

Getting to Squamish is a nightmare - potholes, single lane madness. Murrin Parking lot looks like a petting zoo and Grandwall access is a full tilt construction zone.

Getting to Whistler from Squamish is a piece of cake with a stop or narrowing here and there.

I’m from Ontario but I have B.C. license plate. Does this give me some leeway?

Highway 99 access is being managed by place of origin. British Columbians may proceed unhindered. Albertans and other Prairie folk will be permitted to travel on the highway with a note from their veterinarian certifying they are free of BSE, foot and mouth, rabies and other ailments. Those from Quebec and the Maritimes will still be allowed to use the highway provided they don’t block it by hitchhiking in posses.

Residents of Ontario and other Americans are not permitted on the highway at this time. Special lanes to accomodate their wide girth should be completed in 2009.

Australians and Kiwis are permitted to travel to Whistler once they have stopped off at the STD clinic in Horseshoe Bay.
