Pullin The Tech Out The Dresser!
aka MEC Tour de Bloc Eastern Regionals presented by Joe Rockhead’s.

If you weren’t at Rockhead’s this past weekend you just might have missed the best comp of the season. 130 climbers, 150 spectators and 190 viewers on the web will attest to that.

A good mix of burly and techie problems were created by the experienced crew of Bob Bergman, Brandon Marks, Gus Alexandropolous and Paul Ko. They put in long hours to ensure that all of the 41 qualifiers and 8 finals problems were of the highest quality. A record number of Youth and Open competitors plus the Rec and Experience categories were able to sample the fruits of their labour.

The “Main Event” (Open Finals) featured some of Eastern Canada’s Elite plus the lone West Coast representative Steve “Man Boy” Townsend.

Spectators were in for a treat as the finalist did not disappoint, giving it their all on each attempt.

Of most interest was Men’s and Women’s finals problem number 4. A look of shock and awe was seen on the faces of each finalist as they were escorted to the final problem of the round. A short sideways traverse led each competitor to two wooden grips dangling from the roof of the bouldering wall which they had to reach for, squeeze, hang, spin, swing and pull on just to reach the final hold and the admiration of the crowd. A few came close but only Sebastien Lazure was able to unlock the secret to this problem, sending the crowd into a frenzy.

Erin Ford regained her spot as the “top dog” of the East followed by Katerine Martin and Bonnie de Bruijn. Sebastien Lazure claimed his first ever Men’s Open Regional Crown. Yves Gravelle was a close second while fellow Ottawa climber Dustin Curtis finished third.

Joe Rockhead’s finished off the eastern comp season will a memorable show. Big thanks to Bob and Sharon for laying the ground work for events like this to happen.

I would also like to personally thank all the volunteers who helped out at the event. You were all a big help in making the event run smoothly.

Hey it’s Jeremy Nathan here…

Not long ago I noticed a spike in traffic to a part of my flickr gallery and namely the photos from the TDB @ Rockheads. Wondering where it was suddenly coming from I followed it back here. After finding the forum I thought I would register for the board myself.

The response to the images has been positive and I’m glad people are enjoying them as much as I enjoyed taking them. Hopefully I’ll be able to take some more throughout the year.

FYI, the other day I loaded up a few more images from the event and still have one or two to finish up. Not all of the climbers have been identified and if anyone can help name those that aren’t or fix any errors, that would be awesome. I’d really like to give credit to the climbers themselves.
