Anybody who works in Van but lives outside of Van except Burnaby. As they almost drive that distance everyday in smog and traffic.

Also there is the whole economy question– we are now seeing a slowdown in real estate, the US dollar is going to go further south, oil gas etc are only getting more expensive. Hardly optimal conditions for a massive new development in the relative middle of nowhere.

Thats the problem. They do not see the development to be in the middle of nowhere. They see it as the start of the highway. And why would you drive to Whistler when you could be on Garabaldi any time of the year?

cheers

Dear Tard…oops i meant trad
Do you happen to work for GAS or Mike Esler?
Are you a real-estate developer?
Do you live in Squamish?
Is it really dark with your head jammed up your own ass?
GAS is the most ridiculous real-estate development proposal since the gondola on top of the Chief bullsh*t.
Have you been to any of the meetings or open houses?
Why do you support this so strongly?
Do you understand the concept of smart growth?
Do you think Squamish needs 2 more golf courses?
Do you think pesticide/herbicide/fertilizer run-off from these golf courses won’t affect our best 2 (close to town) swimming holes?
Do you think we need a poorly planned ski hill with 80% crap terrain jammed up against Garibaldi Park?
Where are all the /hr service industry workers going to come from?
Do you really think these extremely wealthy investors and developers from out of town and out of country are going to look out for the best interests of the people of Squamish?
Wake up fool…
I live and work in Squamish and I will NEVER support this out of control real-estate development/land grab known as GAS.

I swim at Cat and Brohm. Oh how many cuts did you get?

I’ve been up to the old lodge. OK is what is going on better?

I’ve driven many of the 4X4 roads up there. Excellent on Brohm Ridge. If so I get it you want to keep it to yourself.

Do you really think that 90+ kms of paved road, 26 ski lifts, 2 golf courses and hotels, condos, townhouses, single family homes for 5000+ people is going to have less of an impact than dirtbikers and sledders? YES overall. Because it is going to happen like it or not.

The loggers f ucked the area twice as bad. The place needs to have something or it will be lost and ruined.

Once again I ask…
Do you work for GAS? NO. Do you work for Whistler and the out of towners that own that ski hill?

Have you been to any of the meetings? YES 1

Do you understand the concept of smart growth? I do, do you?

Do you think we need 2 more golf courses? I hate golf but it at least is a green space forever. So why not?
Do you think golf courses don’t use pesticide/herbicide/fertilizer? They do now but what if somebody came to them with a better way.

Do you think we need a crappy ski hill between Cypress and Whistler? No but something is going to happen. And I do feel better access to Garabaldi and area is needed. That is how you protect areas is by having better access that is controled.

Where are all the min. wage workers going to come from? Again not my problem

Where will all the water for the developments come from? The river like all the other water issues.

Where is all the sewage going to go? In your back yard. Maybe it would be a green solution????

Do you trust developers and investors to do what is right for the people of this community? I do not trust you so no I do not trust them either. Of course not thats why I am saying let have a say.

Is it really dark (and smelly) with your head up your ass? No just your bad breath from being in mine.

The planned development is not going to happen as planned. So try and see it from a different angle. I do get one point from you is you are a sledder or are able to get through the gate. Why the gate?
Gates are to keep others out. And yes without a doubt the sledders and dirt bikes are going to wreck the area completley. Why do you feel it is OK to ruin an area one way but pretend to care in another?

I will never support what is going on up there right now. Why do you feel the four foot deep dirt bike trenches in a Alpine area is OK or discarde OIL cans and OIL everywhere is better? Why is a cat track that leaks oil as fast as you can put it in is better? That is the question. Not how do we supply the min workers????? Maybe mexicans would like to come on up and see the place? Works in the states.

Clearly I am arguing with a babbling fool.

Dear gorb,

Sorry but I do not support this (development) strongly at all. I just understand what is going on at the old lodge and anything is better for the environment. Do you understand what is going on? Have you been to Cat lake at all or the old ski lodge. Do you go to meetings just to write about the problems they may have and NOT think about the problems that ARE happening NOW.

You are the fool if you think it cannot be built in a formal way. I too live (lived many years) in Squamish and will be back before summers end. Look at Revelstokes it is being built in a enviro concept why not at Squamish.

You fear growth instead of trying to do something with it. Do you realy feel that what is going on with Cat lake and Brohm ridge and Brohm lake is OK. Do you do anything to take care of those areas???

I am opposed to what is going on. I feel if we can get into the back country we (as in climbers and outdoor people) would take way better care of the place then as is.

Why on gods green earth are they going to use pesticides. It may be law you cannot use those products before the place is built.

You cannot call Cat lake one of the best swimming holes going. Or are you that much of a fool. Have you ever dove into Cat lake(scuba) and cleaned it out at all? The best you will get from that lake is a gash from all the glass from the brokens bottles everywhere. Don’t be so blind the place is being trashed big time. Is that better?

The ski hill is in place already or at least the lodge that is trashed with the area. Go up and see for yourself. It is clear you have not. As for out of towners taking better care of the area then the local group well agian YES they make money from it, so they have a vested interest. The local groups have sh!t on it instead of taking care of it. 4X4’s onto the ice in the summer I mean come on. The place looks worse then the Ghost River and Waiparous? and they are recreation areas for 4bys. How can it look worse with a park right behind it????. Oh because the local groups are not taking care of it. Why is that big old gate in place?

gorby wrotePresentational Imageearest Tard,

I do understand the concept very well. Do you? Do you understand the likley hood of that happening???. Not very in that area. Not at all would be more to the point. That part is understood. The development is going to be fast and huge no matter who controls that area.

So think outside of your narrow mind and try and see what else is on the table (slated) for that area which very easy could happen. Many of the other options a far worse. Your narrow mind is like the people who pushed for green fuels but forgot to look outside of their narrow mind and used up all food for starving nations.

You cannot see past your concepts. What about the people with even worse concepts of development that would harm that area (mining) They too cannot see past their concepts and they too push for what they think. And often they have the cash to achieve what they want.

I can see a well thought out idea with a ski hill. I think it would be great for the area. As the developer sees it and what will happen are very different in the end. People complained very much like you about Shane Mountain and the resort. But they are very happy to see it move forward. Why could you not have a well thought out plan that involved environment frendly concepts. That would involve the locals in the planning.

Hope you can understand what I am saying??

As for not being a sledder and dirtbiker. Then where did you 4X4 in the area? Or did you just get a ride up the mountain in your buddies truck?
The road is in place already. Kinda like the Ghost. Anybody should be allowed to drive up to the lodge. That is where everybody should be able to park.

But call any of those spurs a 4X4 track before the gate is laughable.

However past the lodge and on either side of the road in the Alpine is trashed by reckless people who think they are cool. I thought that was where you were driving maybe? Because that would be the only 4X4 (as in four wheeling)areas I can think of that way??

The best parts are your nasty return comments.
You win buddy. For being a dick.

I have not read any responses and running out the door, but the short of it is:

I am 100% for it. It would bring SOOOOOO much revenue to this town, and could be done with respect to the environment. Much better than the mindless urban sprawl you see in Squamish today.

Unfortunately there is a big split. Which is funny, because if it were not for Whistler almost NON of us would be living here. Whistler is the heart of this whole economy. over 1,000,000 visits a year spending their money - mostly in whistler.

Squamish is by far a better option. Two golf courses? That is absolutely no reason to harp. If you stand by and let the BC CLEARCUT areas the size of G@S daily - you really have no argument. And if you are a tree hugg’n hippy, well a tree-fort would probably cause you to protest…..

Seriously I lived in Whistler for 10 years, and I know that some locals were angry (yes angry) at the properety taxes, and all the rest. With out recreational outlets that actually REQUIRE environmental attention such as G@S, it’s just another strip mall on the side of the HWY.

I’ll be right in line opening day (with a big grin) when that first lift opens…..

Hey Steve,

The only reason the money people do not stop in Squamish is because why would they.

No point in getting you sh!t in a knot. Its only a forum. Besides. The access society has done nothing to protect the rights of climbers in Squamish anyhow. And with what goes on in Powell River shows the real angenda of the access society.

Cheers

I am actually amused that anyone can call Whistler a role model city with a straight face! Presentational Image

Maybe you are joking?

Unless your idea of model citizen is a very expensive whore?
