Ya got me there… as you might guess, the university name was chosen by the principal donor. Still, it doesn’t seem to bother the enrolled students. (I do admit they are a very earnest bunch…)

Anyways, I do encourage you all to drop by sometime. I assure you its not a gong show. In other news, there’s a few of us who would like to get a climbing wall in, but it might be a while as we try to gather the resources.

Perhaps the original poster could identify himself, and his interest in Quest University?

I’m pretty sure that Anders knows who I am.

Actually its my wife that works up at the university but I’m not trying to promote the place, just wondering if anybody has heard about it and what the overall impression of it is.

Is Quest College going to have a Moat and a Large Stone Wall to keep out the Dirtbags, Hippies and Homeless?  Also, will there be any of those really smart math guys or painters that freak out and make the National News?  I’m thinking movie potential, Ben Afleck Perhaps?

From what I have heard its a great idea for a Uni. My wife wrote the article about it in Mountain Life.

(I was pulling on Anders toe with that last comment)

Why do you feel like he/she is up to some kind of no good. Are they promoting the Uni.

I heard a rumour that Anders is going to be lecturing in Squamish History at the new university?

I think if you want a diploma to hang on your wall, live in a reasonably cool town, have lots of great climbing nearby, and pay LOTS of money for a middle-of-the-road education, it’s a great school.

If you want to go to grad school, or impress potential employers, it’s a bad idea.

Just my opinion, but one backed up by a reasonable number of years (15) in academia (undergraduate + gradschool + post-doc experience).

Cheers

Thats why the new University may work. Practical experience is way better then 15+yrs to achive what? The system is wrong and how big ass University instruct is out to lunch with real life. The old school of thought about Unis should stop and be replaced with new and fresh ideas. Remember the guy who started this University does have a little bit of knowledge of what he speaks about.

Their is NO reason to go to school for 15yrs. What true value do you hold to society other then to other academia peers?

This style of a university may give to society something of value.

I’ve known a lot of people who went to the right universities and schools, and still can’t find a job. If you think that the institutions name on your diploma/degree means anything to the person hiring you compared to any experience you have, you’ve been reading too many SFU brochures.
I don’t know a lot about Quest (other than the Cafeteria is supposed to be great), but if they are giving their students real world experience, then that is worth more than a fancy institution name on the degree.
