I haven’t seen a single one this year, at least not in the Grand Wall area.

I do agree that we need to be more clear about the closure and why the dates that have been set out are what they are. It is not just the climbers that need to have a better understanding, BC Parks also need to have a better understanding of climbers and why they need to put up signs. Many people do not use the guide book for bathroom reading so many would not read that part of the guide book.

But we should never use the American way of closure as a good example of anything. To close an entire range for two birds is dumb also just because it is easy on the staff.

How many Falcons have been seen this year????

So Doyle after all that time you could not answer one question of mine. huh?

Now tantalize me with your vast knowledge of the Falcon and tell me why is it they are endangered? What was the root (not to confused with route) cause of the Falcon’s collapse? And better yet tell what NEW research is saying and talking about doing… AGAIN!

Answer me this and if you can’t without looking it up, stick with climbing because your rebuttals have no substance.

Anyway….. I was told TODAY that a Falcon was ATTACKING and diving a climber on SNAKE so , unless someone can give me some info I don’t think anyone really knows what the true status of these birds is.

Last year I saw them perched 50ft from the flats section of the Grand Wall and they just sat and watched us. After that they were on the the buttress. Perhaps some Internet savvy person (me) will design a site for motoring Falcon activity via functional chief topo. Perhaps then we can better understand the ACTUAL status of this supposed non native endangered bird.

I saw one of them scrapping with a bald eagle that strayed to close to the nest a few weeks ago.  Pretty impressive considering their size.

I saw them perching but not nesting and suspect that they were taking kills back to a nest site elsewhere (which I assume would be on Trichome Ledge where they usually nest).

Mason

I or anyone else for that matter do not need to answer to you, the routes are closed and thats it. For you to sit there and preach that since someone has not gone out of their way to supply you with the reasons why a closure is in effect and has been long before you showed up is beyond ignorant. If you would like these answers why not find them out and do something positive for the community and educate fellow climbers  instead of possibly ruining future climbing and new route potential with your ignorance.

I know that people who watch and record the birds movements on a volunteer basis noticed a nest on Trichome ledge and suggested the closure area. They ask that you supply them with sightings and nestings to help with the closures, the Grand has been closed before and if portions of the Apron have to be closed then thats what it takes. Wasnt Petgill closed last year for some time.

Bathroom reading or not the onus is on you to find out wether you can climb, pleading ingonorance is not an option. Like it or not your actions affect us all so pay attention.

Apparently neither stone mason, Trad or Trick have seen any falcons this year, or at least seen enough of them to worry about, so it sounds like we’ve got a green light and can ignore the falcon closure based on pure ignorance.  Sweet!  I am already planning my trip to Devil’s Tower for next June…

There were definitely two falcons screeching, flying about and hunting and killing other birds, in the vicinity of the South Gully/Rock On on Saturday last week, I saw them perching but not nesting and suspect that they were taking kills back to a nest site elsewhere (which I assume would be on Trichome Ledge where they usually nest). No sign at all of them on Sunday.

Come on. This is not a law but self imposed. The parks people should be telling people more information and where the closure is and why. If they worked more closley with climbers we would have better knowledge and may act better towards different issues that effect our climbing world.

It is just silly to say it is your onus to find out all information about where you may climb and what closure may be in effect.
The onus is on those who feel this is important to make sure everybody knows. Signs would help. So many on here are so smart why have you not taken an active role and built signs or leaflets to let others know?????

All I am saying is, it is not as common knowledge as many here have made it out. So why be nasty. Why not make the point clear without being nasty. Being nasty only makes some go on out and climb in those areas out of spite.
