July 15th representatives of the climbing community (TABVAR, CMC, ACC, ACMG and CASA) met with Government officials (Department of Transport, SRD, and Kananaskis Parks) regarding the partial closure of Grassi Lakes trails and climbing.  Our goal for the meeting was to regain access and establish a time table for re-opening of the trails and climbing access.

The meeting was successful.  Tentatively, the hazard will be removed and access will be re-established in mid August.  Later the DOT will work on the road to permanently resolve the problem.  Of course, the time lines for the repair work depends on the availability of equipment, but we are optimistic the work will be done promptly.

Please note that when these repairs are taking place access to the area will be closed because of the danger of rockfall.  However, these will be short term closures of a day or two, and we will work with the government departments to notify people about the closures ahead of time.
