Trad– I am going to ignore everything you write, because it is gibberish (to me).  Perhaps somebody else can translate into regular English.

Piss off.

What part do you not understand? you are upset at the idea that you are one of those who cannot control their own behavior. At the cancer clinic (Victoria) all the doctors I have spoke with agree with me. Many of them teach doctors how to look for and deal with cancer. They see fear and lack of control on a daily bases and they have had a good laugh by what you have said. You asked how it effects people climbing did you not??

Drugs effect people differently and again how you behave on drugs is how you WILL act in a very real setting. If you knew how many experts on the subject I have talked with you may feel a little sheepish at the end of the day.

Your question makes no sense.

Alb– Yea, good question– Woudl I be OK with a high/tipsy belayer?  Alcohol– no.  Find another partner.  Weed– depends on how chronic the user is.  One guy I climb with uses it regularly and I can’t tell the difference between stoned and regular him, so no worries there (he is super safe under all circumstances).  On the other hand, a non-regular user will have big changes made to his/her brain when high, so I am not sure that (for me) the place to experience that is climbing.

Key word, ancient.

Trad, you’re making a fool of yourself with your gregariousness. If you’re trying to articulate how many human beings ultimately distract themselves from the existential nothingness of the world by restricting themselves with society and rules, then you have done it in an incredibly inefficient matter.
I guess you missubderstood what had been said for that reply I made!

You’re claim that drugs and alcohol reveal the true ‘you’ is a silly and primitive dualistic approach to the argument at hand.
Really are you sure? What I said was in the face of true danger that could not have been predicted but happened at a very fast rate such as a fire in a bar or falling and being injured! Again I am correct.

I would not normally be so inclined to talk this way, but your foolishness merits it. So please, relax.

I think you should relax and read what I said in retort.

At times, I over analyze the situation to the point where I think way too much about the fall and end up just being a big Nancy.

So maybe I am wrong but is that not what I am saying about not in control of your actions??? I mean come on.

Other times however, a project has been sent VERY soon after smoking up. Perhaps framing of attention changes?
Perhaps for some but others would never be able to over come fear and not be able to climb.

Or perhaps there is a decrease in higher order functioning.
In some, others never have this experience. They are in control of themselves all the time and reacte as they need to.

Anyway, back to the topic at hand; I think this is really interesting harihari. There are many factors in how recreational drug use will affect the climber. Has the individual been using the drug for quite some time? How long has he/she been climbing for?

I am by no means a ‘pothead’, but will admit to smoking the stuff. Occasionally, it so happens that I get high whilst climbing. Keep in mind I primarily boulder, so it could perhaps be argued that the effects vary in regards to how dangerous the situation is etc. I would say the results have been more or less inconclusive. At times, I over analyze the situation to the point where I think way too much about the fall and end up just being a big Nancy. Other times however, a project has been sent VERY soon after smoking up. Perhaps framing of attention changes? Or perhaps there is a decrease in higher order functioning which enables the climber to rely more on the automation of the moves? Again, I think this is pretty specific to bouldering.

Neat conversation!

That is why they smoke pot alot as it has none of those brain drain effects on them.

And those who have those oddest experiences never ever pick up the habit as it gives them odd experiences like being out of control!

Must be important hey Sark, as you seem to post to it often. Negative comments as normal but it still has your interest.

Sark– yoga itself is a drug; Bikram is a pimp, etc etc.  Hope you sent some hard asanas.
