Post bouldering trip beta

i am looking to go on an extended (2 week) bouldering trip starting in the middle of march

criteria:
- fairly cheap flight (from NYC)
- ability to get to camping/lodging facilities without renting a car
- cheap camping/lodging
- able to access the boulders without a car
- easy access to food/groceries

i’ve never been to either bishop or hueco but suspect that certain of my criteria will not be satisfied

any thoughts would be greatly appreciated

I was at Joshua Tree for spring break, the bouldering’s great! It’s about a 4 hour drive from LA though, and without a car it might seem a little hard to get too. Its nice and close to the town of Joshua Tree though and there are lots of camp sites in the park.. or more specifically right beside all the hot bouldering.

Relatively close to all conveniences though might be tricky to get there without a means for transportation.

Any way good luck and have fun!

If you dont care when you go you can get a flight to Paris from NY for about 0 bucks and hit up Font.

It’s not in the mags much these days, but it is a mammoth 5 star bouldering area that dwarfs Hueco and Bishop and will be a much better temp this time of year

Fly to Charles de Gaul airport and then take the TGV train system to Gare de Lyonhttp://parisbytrain.com/paris-to-fontainebleau-by-train/

Get off at the Font Station and buy a map of the forest from the variety store in the station.  This map will show you all the nice trails that go through the woods and will have the bouldering areas all marked out on it.  BTW You can rent a bicycle in town (right at the station except on Sundays)

Camping is available at

Buy a day or two of food ahead of time and then hop a cab to the camping

You can buy a guide there or just google some websites.  The place is divide up into areas that typically house 100+ problems each and most are a nice stroll though the woods from the camping.  You can buy fresh baked bread and cheese and wine all over.  Check out the town of barbizon for some BBQ Chicken Presentational Image

Squamish BC is also good– you can camp right there on Psyche Ledge.  Bus brings you from Vancovuer airport to Sqmaish.  You can walk to town in about 20-25 min from camping or hitch a ride.  It’s very social, weed is omnipresent, yadda yadda.

You can do Josh w/o car– it is easy to hitch rides into/back from town.  Just bring a water bag or two and your pack, no water in park.

But overall, Font is your best bet.  Two words:  French women Presentational Image

There are two guidebooks to the Font. Look on Amazon.
Squamish is your cheapest option and no need for a car.
