I have to agree. There have been some very strange trails popping up. The one that comes to mind is the one directly parallel to the stairs above pixie corner….. what is with that?

Whats with all the new trails at the Smoke Bluffs? Man talk about clear cut. I thought all clear cuts just to promote an area or to do for logging (Malamute) are considered bad.

A couple of bolts here and there look a lot better then a new clear cut trail system.

I agree with the trails myself. I like development of an area, brings more people out to enjoy what we have.

But to say any other new route damage or how many bolts are used or anything is ugly is two faced to the max.

The District of Squamish is doing this with SAS input, since the  Bluffs are now a municipal park.  The trail going in from the lower lot is there to keep hikers & climbers separate from the mtnbikers.  Some of the wider trails are there to help with truck access for outhouses, first aid etc.  Those higher trails (eg near Split Beaver etc) are there because a few of the old ones are badly eroded.

Yea some weird things but overall good– and clearing away places like Easter Island means traffi can spread away from N&C, B& F etc.  the SAS would love your input, since they talk to the District abotu climbing plans.

The clearing of Easter island is a CRIME!. That was the BEST tucked away gem, short with a worth while top out. Since it’s clearing, I have not noticed a single change to the amount of traffic at Neat and Cool. Unless you want to take an impact hammer drill and remove those great routes, you’ll never see less traffic.  Some of the adventure in the bluffs is disappearing. It feels like the strip mall of trad climbing now. I think what the bluffs really need,  is obviously a gondola to the top or  a few midgets (little people) to porter your starbucks to the crag of choice.

But hey, that’s just my opinion. I think developing some of the trails to say the Badge, or Angels Crest would be better. Those trails need a real ‘entrance’ so new climbers know where the hell they are going. It’s easy to take the wrong trial and hike for an unnecessary 20min before realizing you aren’t on the right trail.

Also, while I’m on the topic…..what is the deal with the new anchor at top of p2 of crime of the century? Do you think many people will use it? On the flip side, great job of clearing the pebbles/stones off the top. Props to whom ever did that.

In that case we should have bolts as anchors on every route to insure the park is a safe place to play for all. I can see a person suing the town and then all of us can no longer go and play because of a law suit. The town will protect it’s self and we will lose.

Just by getting lost in the dark and falling off a new trail and busting a leg would be enough.

I feel like a home owner who just had a highway built by my house over nite and the plans had been passed behind closed doors on a Sunday and I was not invited to have a say.
Not many I talked to knew this was about to happen.

My only point is many who built this path are also slagging others for what they do or chopping bolts. Their has been many years of dumb ass behavior towards others because they did not like the looks of something.

Not valid anymore.

The new anchor at the top and left of C.O.T.C. is there so that you can rap with 1 60m rope to the ground without using Crime’s first pitch anchor.

Well then. Not sure if anyone else knew this but you always could, even with a 50m by rapping down the corner beside Power Windows, Walking up to that anchor to rap just adds some risk. It’s no big deal, I just don’t see it being used that much. Most times I see that anchor (the old one) being used is from people climbing Penny Lane and even belaying from that old rap station. The only reason I ever rapped onto Crime, was to top rope it.
