The Association of Canadian Mountain Guides (ACMG) moved into Ontario a few years ago.  Originally the organization was strictly for guides, who typically work in alpine/ski/mountain settings.  Through the years the organization developed a Climbing Gym Instructor (CGI) course and a Top Rope Climbing Instructor (TRCI) course.  These two courses were meant to bridge the gap between the lofty mountain guide, and the indoor instructor or outdoor top rope school.  The ACMG has very high standards of its members, and helps as a governing body to provide insurance and legal backup for its members.  The ACMG also strenghtens communities - both nationally and locally.

The CGI courses have been operating in Ontario for a few years now, with another course on February 19-21.  This year the ACMG is attempting to bring its TRCI courses here over two weekends in the spring.  Ontario has not had any governing body on outdoor rock climbing practices or teaching practices in quite some time (bye ORCA).  Personally, I think this is something that will only help outdoor climbing in Ontario.  We will have an additional large body to back us up.  I will be taking this course, and I think anyone interested should look into it further for themselves.
