The North Face Ventrix Jacket is Great for Shoulder Season

The North Face has a number of new pieces of apparel for 2017, including the Summit L3 Ventrix Hoodie that will be available this fall.

Gripped Publishing writer Tim Huebsch recently had the opportunity to give the Ventrix Hoodie a test run. “Incredibly light considering the amount of heat the jacket traps,” said Huebsch. “It means you can add a shell on top quite easily to add a layer of protection in wet conditions.”

There will be two models available, the Summit and the Core. The Summit is a little heavier duty with more abrasion resistant material. The Core has a big chest pocket and both have nice hoods that cinch over your helmet.

Huebsch also pointed out that for heavy exercise, it’s advantageous because you can get away with wearing a T-shirt underneath in cold temperatures. It takes away the risk of sweating and subsequently getting the “chills” mid-run.

It comes with cuffed arms that keeps cool air out and warm heat in and Huebsch noted that it fits true to size, even on a smaller frame. For climbers, this will be a perfect shoulder season jacket for when you’re moving in temperatures -5°C to -15°C.

The new Ventrix insulation has vertical slits so when sitting still, the slits are closed off, but when active, the slits open to allow moisture to escape.

The North Face says: “Your new alpine workhorse, this synthetic-insulated mid layer features a cutting-edge dynamic-venting insulation layer that activates with movement and works in combination with highly wind- permeable fabrics. It sets a new standard for comfort in a broad range of activity levels, radically balancing warmth and comfort.”

Specs: Lightweight, highly air-permeable fabrics / 80 g stretch synthetic insulation throughout the garment; perforated throughout center back and under the arms for dynamic venting / Centre back darting anchors insulation for maximum venting during movement / Abrasion-resistant print on upper yoke and forearms for added durability at the lightest possible weight / Pre- tensioned, helmet-compatible hood with elastic binding and rear adjustment / Exposed, VISLON® center front zip.
