12 Canadian Ice Climbing Photos from December

Below are 10 ice climbing photos from across Canada this December. A number of new routes were established in the past week. On the West Coast, Paul McSorley and Jia Condon established the new Husqvarna Hummer. On the East Coast, Max Fisher and Lucas Toron climbed the new T-Rex in Nova Scotia. Ice is formed up on the coasts, in the Rockis, in Quebec and in the Rockies.

@jasfauteux on the chimney pitch on Âme du Nord. We hung off screws and a single bolt (expertly installed by @pete_takeda) below this pitch, wondering what it would be like. We'd started on an enjoyable mixed pitch to gain a thin flow, though our in-the-shade attempt had been aborted due to frozen cams and hands. The best piece of climbing on the trip for me was following the #ferret's lead, thin ice climbing through three-dimensional terrain. Since I'd been established higher, I was able to capture him here. Âme du Nord (125m M6 WI5r) For @pete_takeda's #northernsoul film premier, I'll be sharing some of my favourite shots from our Nipissis trip here on Instagram this week. We're currently planning the trip for February 2017! Check out a short article I wrote for the American Alpine Journal about the trip (link in bio). @americanalpine @rab.equipment @rab.equipment_canada @alpinistmag #aacgram
