A New 5.15a on Christmas Day

Austrian climber Roland Hemetzberger reported that he sent a new 5.15a on Christmas Day at the Austrian crag Achleiten.

On Facebook, Hemetzberger reported that he made the first ascent of a 20-year project, “For sure the hardest climb I’ve ever done and it’s a big honour for me to free this old project from Stefan Fürst. I don’t know how hard it is, maybe around 9a+ (5.15a)… rad one.”

According to 8a.nu, Hemetzberger had made a few 5.14d first ascents and one 5.14+ trad route. They noted that many of his first ascents have never been repeated.
