Alex Megos Climbs New 5.14d at Acephale

Alex Megos has been in the Canadian Rockies for three days and has put down three old projects. At Ravens Crag he sent a decades-old route at 5.14b after-which Sonnie Trotter extended and Megos said the full line will be in the 5.15 range.

The next day, Megos sent a project at Planet X and called it Iron Butterfly 5.14c/d. On the last day of July, he sent a four-year-old project at Acephale bolted by Evan Hau and called it Full Nelson 5.14d in three tries.

Before sending the project, Megos sent Bunda de Fora 5.14d in three tries and made the third ascent of Kinder Surprise 5.14c in two tries. After the day, Trotter said, “Huge Congratulations to Alex Megos for what is unquestionably the most outrageous day of sport climbing in Canadian history.”

Full Nelson is now the fourth confirmed 5.14d in Canada after Bunda de Fora, Forever Expired and Dreamcatcher. Hau made the second ascent of Kinder Surprise this past week and graded it 5.14c. It was first climbed in 2014 by Josh Muller who graded it 5.14c or 5.14d.

In total, Megos has climbed five 5.14+ routes in the Bow Valley in three days. Megos is in Canada for five weeks and at this rate he might run out of projects. For more info on the other routes Megos has climbed in Canada see here.
