Big Push On The Dawn Wall

Tommy Caldwell and Kevin Jorgeson have started their final attempt of the year to free The Dawn Wall.

Caldwell and Jorgeson started up on Dec. 27 for perhaps their last time. If all goes well, the next time they stand on solid ground will be on top of El Capitan. On the first day, they made it up pitches one through five with no problems. On day two, they spent 10 hours climbing pitches six through nine.

The Dawn Wall is a 32-pitch 5.14+ with a long history of attempts by Caldwell and Jorgeson.

Pitches 10 through 15 are the crux pitches with four 5.14 pitches and one 5.13c pitch. If they free these pitches then they have three more 5.13+ pitches and 13 more up to 5.12+.
