In Canada: New Black Diamond Momentum Shoes

Black Diamond has a long track record of making top climbing gear, from harnesses and helmets to cams and ropes.

Over the past few years, Black Diamond has introduced new skis, apparel, trekking poles and most recently a new shoe line.

Their climbing shoes are already turning heads and getting rave reviews from longtime climbers and gear manufacturers.

In Canada, the new Momentum is already on the shelves at MEC and other retailers selling for $109. One of the best features of the Momentum is they have a unique polyester knit upper that adds breathability.

Other shoes in the line will include the Aspect for all day crack climbing, Focus for long multi-pitch and Shadow for hard bouldering.

The full line will be available sometime in spring/summer 2018.

The Momentum is a gym-specific climbing shoe with a tight weave polyester-propylene knit that stands apart from the standard heavy synthetic leather upper on other shoes. It’s perfect for hot climbing gyms.

In the high-wear areas of the Momentum, there is a tighter knit and on the top of your foot the knit is looser. It will be available in a kid version and lace-up.

The shoes are manufactured in Korea by the climbing shoe brand Butora. Find them at MEC here.

The new Black Diamond Momentum

From Black Diamond: A gym-centric shoe that balances fit with breathability. The knit upper has a variable weave that provides both airflow and support.

The inner liner uses hemp to absorb moisture – nice when the air in the gym feels tropical. It uses proprietary BD rubber that’s designed to last through long gym seasons while you hone your strength and technique.

Specs: Engineered Knit tech in the upper provides exceptional fit, breathability and comfort.
– Hemp liner in the toe box helps manage moisture and reduce the chance of blisters.
– Neutral, flat last offers comfort and support for developing climbers.
– 4.3mm NeoFriction rubber is designed for durability, consistency and lightness.
– Soft flex midsole adds sensitivity for the perfect foot placement.
– 2 Velcro straps tune the fit.
