Chamonix Aiguille du Midi Gets New Route Red Devils

Strong climbers Jeff Mercier, David Autheman, Geremy Rakowski and Lucien Boucansaud climbed a new route up the northwest face of Aiguille du Midi in Chamonix called Red Devils.

According to PlanetMountina.com, the route took two attempts and is graded M7. Mercier said in the story here, “The climbing was harder than expected and in the end there wasn’t enough time to climb the upper wall, because all of us have to go to work the day after.”

They returned a few days later to complete the line by traversing into it. Red Devils is the Manchester United football team name.

A few years ago, Mercier visited Canada and climbed new routes with Ian Welsted and Raphael Slawinski. Visit here to read Welsted’s story about their bold new route. Click on the clip below to play.
