Dan Beland Makes Second Ascent of West Coast 5.14b/c

Dan Beland has been on a tear the past year with big sends around North America. Over the last few days, he focused his energy on an unrepeated 2012 route by Elan Jonas McRae called A Stressful Day at the Office 5.14b/c. The route starts on Another Day at the Office (ADATO) and joins Driven with a number of hard cruxes. Beland linked the hard boulder problem and steep tufa climbing this week for the second ascent of the steep line. Watch one of Beland’s earlier attempts below in clips by Brian Wyvill. ADATO was first climbed in 2004 by Mike Doyle who was belayed by Josie Hetyei. The strong Canadian Hetyei sent ADATO herself in 2014.

On Sendage.com, Beland wrote, “Second ascent. Awesome! The crux is shorter but has significantly harder moves than those on ADATO. Not sure whether it justifies a grade bump. I guess maybe it depends on how solid ADATO sits at 5.14b. We need to get some people out that have more experience at this grade to confirm.”
