Dawn Wall Team’s Big Send, Pitch 15

Pitch 15 of the Dawnall is 5.14+ and was sent under a winter sky

Tommy Caldwell has climbed the hardest pitch in Yosemite, Pitch 15 of the Dawn Wall. The project is into its seventh-year and the winter conditions are proving to be making all the difference.

From Caldwell’s Facebook: I have been taking it easy on the Dawn Wall posts this season but right now I am too psyched not to share. I regret to inform anyone looking to climb the hardest pitch on Yosemite that now they have to get to the absolute middle of El Cap to make it happen. PITCH 15 WENT DOWN!!! It’s looking like winter conditions are the way forward. I Love this climb!!!

Pro Climbers International broke the news on their Facebook page. “Tommy Caldwell just sent pitch 15. At 5.14d, it’s the hardest pitch in Yosemite and represents a huge step toward an eventual send of the entire route. Congratulations Tommy!”

For more on the Dawn Wall see here. The route is 30 pitches, with seven being 5.14, of which there are three 5.14+ pitches in a row, and seven 5.13 pitches.
