Hard Sends Around the World This Week

While spring is starting to show up across Canada, it’s full on rock season at some international areas.

The 14-year-old crusher Brooke Raboutou has sent Joe Kinder’s 30-metre Southern Smoke 5.14c at Bob Marley Crag at Red River Gorge in Kentucky. “This is a beautiful line and I had so much fun climbing it!” Raboutou wrote on Instagram after her climb. Raboutou first climbed 5.14 in 2012 with her send of God’s Own State 5.14a and at the age of 11 sent Welcome to Tijuana 5.14b in Spain.

Adam Ondra made the first ascent of Vicious Circle 5.15a/b at Misja Pec in Slovenia. The route is now the country’s hardest climb. He then onsighted Klemen Becan’s The Core and downgraded it from 5.14d to 5.14b/c. He then onsighted Outdoorfingerspiele 5.14b and made the first ascent of More 5.14d after a few attemtps, which is the only 5.14d in Croatia.

Strong 18-year-old Margo Hayes sent Jon Siegrist’s 2010 route Pure Imagination 5.14c at Red River Gorge. Originally graded 5.14d, Ondra downgraded it after onsighting it. She also ticked Omaha Beach 5.14a on her second burn.

American boulderer James Webb flashed Globalist V13 in Sipoo, Finland, or his 13th flash of the grade. “Absolutely incredible boulder from Nalle that I’ve wanted to climb on for so long. Perfect rock, amazing movement,” Webb said. “One of the best!”
