The Phoenix is one of the Niagara Glen’s harder problems. Ontario climber David Heerema sent it, and a V12 in Quebec, during a week-long road trip this spring.
Heerema, who is one of Canada’s strongest boulderers, wrote this about the climb “The Phoenix was a project of mine since 2012 and I’d put in at least seven sessions on it. It never ever felt any easier and in the end I just had to practice over and over and beat it into submission. The holds are often wet and the pinches drain me. Personally this may be the hardest climb I’ve ever done.”

After his days in Niagara, Heerema drove to Quebec’s Val David where he sent Crazy Belly, another aesthetic V12.
Not a bad road trip, back-to-back V12s! For more, visit Heerema’s blog here.
