Jamie Finlayson Sends The Reckoning V14

In April, Jamie Finlayson sent The Reckoning Stand V10 at the Farm in the North Wall Boulders and said that he was making good progress on the low start, which goes at V14. Two months later, the Squamish-based sender has reported his recent send of the V14 variation, his hardest problem to date. There to cheer him on was his eight-month-old son Thomas. “I sat on top of the boulder looking down at him in his portable crib and we giggled together taking in the moment,” said Finlayson. Finlayson noted that he started the project four months ago and that Thomas was there. The photo below was taken a few weeks ago, as he did not bring a phone on the send day. “I did managed to carry three Petzl crash pads, a diaper bag, a baby squeeze food tube, baby crackers, a change of cloths for Thomas, a toy car, a toy rattle, toy rings, a baby water bottle, my water bottle, my Evolve Shamans and Agros, a chalk bag, a brush, a collapsible baby crib and of course 21-pound Thomas,” said Finlayson. “Having a baby adds a new dimension when packing.”

In 2014, 19-year-old Elan Jonas-McRae made the second ascent of the V14, one of Canada’s only at the grade. The first ascent was in 2010 by Tim Doyle. It was the first time one of the four Squamish V14s had been repeated. After his send, Jonas-McRae wrote on Sendage.com, “So psyched for the this thing to finally go down, first time on it in about a year and felt easy aside from falling off the last move a couple times. Singularity is next, thanks for the support everyone, it feels good to fall on Flashed mats ( but better not to fall at all).”
