Julia Bobak of B.C. Sends Her First 5.13c

Julia Bobak has had a breakthrough summer in terms of pushing grades. She sent Ahead by a Century 5.13b at Horne Lake and Ill Communication 5.13b at Check, her first routes at the grade, earlier this summer. And now she has ticked the 35-metre Dancing in the Dark at Horne Lake, her first 5.13c. After her send, she wrote on Sendage.com, “Ten metres of tufa compression, underclinging, pinching awesomeness! Bookended by another 20 metres of decidedly OK climbing.”

Dancing with the Stars was first climbed by Paul Szaroz in 2013. It climbs the Boss Wall and is an extension to the popular Holy Upsettas 5.12a. Dancing with the Stars was bolted by Rene Monjo, a strong local climber. The route’s name refers to the black limestone you are climbing on the crux.
