Killian Jornet Backs Off Everest Record Attempt

Kilian Jornet, Spanish mountain runner, and his team have backed off their speed record attempt on Mount Everest’s north face. Deep snow and poor conditions led to the decision. Jornet was hoping to set the ascent and descent record for Everst as part of his Summits of my Life project. The other climbers on the team included Jordi Corominas and Jordi Tosas and mountain guides and cameramen Vivian Bruchez and Seb Montaz-Rosset. Listen to Jornet after the decision to abandon the climb:

Jornet has set five records during his project, including the Innominata Ridge of Mont Blanc in eight hours and 43 minutes from Courmayeur to Chamonix, Mont Blanc in four hours and 57 minutes, Matterhorn in two hours and 52 minutes, Denali in 11 hours and 40 minutes and Aconcagua in 12 hours and 49 minutes. Jornet will return to Everest and make an attempt at Mount Elbrus next year. Watch Jornet on the Matterhorn:
