Klemen Becan Disappointed 5.15a Send Was So Easy

Klemen Becan repeated Papichulo 5.15a in Oliana this week. The strong Slovenian climber runs training camps with Chris Sharma in Spain. He first tried it this winter after sending Joe Mama 5.15a, but said it had too many people working it. In total, he made 10 attempts over four sessions before his send. “Today, I surprised myself since I thought finally I can do some training attempts to get stronger and after I came over the crux I just cruised without a big rest,” said Becan. “The hardest part for me was the first few meters… By the end, I was a bit disappointed since I was expecting a bigger fight. I guess all the training pays off.” Watch a video of the send here.

Papichulo is one of the most-climbed 5.15s in the world with around 12 sends. In 2008, Chris Sharma established the line and made the first ascent. Daniel Woods sent the route this past winter and after said, “The most resistant route I have climbed on. Fifty metres, limited rests, perfect rock, sketchy slab outro… has everything.”
