New Cliff Opened in the Gunks!

In this bastion of climbing tradition, change is rare, and some of the most famous cliffs, like Skytop have been closed to open access from climbers. The opening of Dickie Barre is, therefore very welcome.

The solid quartzite conglomerate trad climbing of the Gunks has been popular with Canadian climbers for fifty years. In this bastion of climbing tradition, change is rare, and some of the most famous cliffs, like Skytop have been closed to open access from climbers. The opening of Dickie Barre, in late April, after extensive work by the Gunks Climbers Coalition and local parks administration will therefore be extremely welcome. Some route information is available.
