New Hard Route on Eiger by Tom Ballard and Marcin Tomaszewski

Tom Ballard and Marcin Tomaszewski have made the first ascent of the 1,800-metre Titanic 5.10c M5 A3 up the north face of the Eiger. The two climbers spent seven days on the wall. Tomaszewski was writing updates from the route on Facebook. By Dec. 1 they had climbed 430 metres of their new route, noting the rock was loose and their climbing slow. On Dec. 3, they had climbed 18 pitches and today updated that they were on the summit. For photos from Titanic visit here and for a topo of the Eiger north face visit here.

Tomaszewski has climbed new big-wall alpine routes on Baffin Island, in Europe and the Himalayas. Last winter, Ballard soloed the six great north aces of the Alps, including the Eiger, Matterhorn, Piz Badile, Cima Grande, Grandes Jorasses and Petit Dru. He became the first climber to solo them all in one winter.
