New Ontario Rock Climbing Guidebook

Southern Ontario climbers will have a new guidebook this summer, the first in over two decades.

The comprehensive guide will be published in two volumes. Focused around The Niagara Escarpment, Gus Alexandropoulos wrote: “the guide itself is a love letter to the area and its vibrant community.”

Alexandropoulos was an important member of the Gripped team for over a decade. He hooked up with Ontario rock climbing expert Justin Dwyer for the difficult task of creating this guidebook.

The guidebook will cover popular areas along the nearly 1,000-kilometre-long Escarpment. The two volumes will divide the Escarpment into Southern and Northern. In total, there are over 1,000 climbing routes detailed.

Alexandropoulos wrote the following about the volumes on his site OntarioClimbing.com:

Volume 1 – The Southern Escarpment makes extensive use of colour photographs of the cliff to show routes from the climber’s perspective. This feature is particularly helpful due to the dense nature of routes on these almost climb-anywhere walls. Release date – before Spring 2016

Volume 2 – The Northern Escarpment focuses more on detailed overhead topo maps with some route photos mixed in to help with “you are here”-ing yourself. Release date – Spring 2016

This is a much needed guidebook for the thousands of climbers in Southern Ontario. For more info on the authors and to see how the guidebook will be laid out, visit here.
