New Rockies’ Crag is Hungry Tiger Wall in Echo Canyon

Echo Canyon has been a go-to location for sport climbers over the past decade. It rises above Canmore on the south face of Grotto Mountain. With hundreds of routes on a dozen crags, it is quickly becoming the most popular place for those looking to push themselves. Recently, a new crag has been established on the shady side of the canyon. As most of Echo heats up on summer days, the Hungry Tiger Wall will be choice during July and August.

With routes ranging from 25 to 35 metres and clocking in around the 5.11 and 5.12 range, Hungry Tiger Wall promises to provide worthy all-day climbing fun. The rock is reported to be steep, featured and sharp. It is found on the same band of rock as The Notch crag, but accessed from a different trail. The routes were established by Hugo Daigle, Doug Fulford, Ian Perry and Matt Mueller. The first route on the wall was Hungry Tiger 5.12a/b and it provides pumpy climbing on solid rock.
