Pee Wee Sends Hard Desert Crack

Jean-Pierre (Pee Wee) Ouellet has sent his multi-week project in Indian Creek. He has climbed a number of text-piece cracks this fall.

Since arriving in Moab over a month ago, Ouellet has climbed a half-dozen 5.13s, including two first ascents, one being Zebras and Moonbeams, and repeating Trail of Tears 5.13b, his 50th 5.13 crack.

On Nov.13, Ouellet sent Dean Potter’s Hong Kong Fooey on the Cliff of Disappointment. The 5.13+ has likely only had four ascents, including Ouellet’s. “The crux pitch is this crazy cool 40-metre overhanging splitter. It’s mostly 0.4 and 0.5 C4 camalots. So effing good,” said Ouellet. “I almost sent on my second go, but fell two meters from the anchor when I slipped while placing a cam. Took a giant whipper. Then it took me four more tries. I sent today on my last day of the trip. Freezing temps (seven-degree C) and it actually started snowing while I was going over the last crux.”
