Roland Hemetzberger Repeats Alex Huber’s Nirwana

Roland Hemetzberger has repeated Alex Huber’s Nirwana 5.14c and suggested a grade of 5.14a. The strong German climber commented on Instagram, “Pretty stoked that I was yesterday able to repeat Alex Huber’s Nirwana at the LofererAlm in Austria… The route is for me a benchmark and for sure one of the best in the alps! Alex did a excellent job. The 8c+ pitch has arround 50 metres and is just phenomenal.”

Fabian Buhl made the second ascent in 2013, a year after Huber’s first ascent. At the time, it was considered the hardest multi-pitch in the world. Read an interview with Buhl here. Watch Hemetzberger working a project in the Alps a few years ago.
