Spitting Cobra is One of Many New B.C. Ice Routes

It has been a cold winter in B.C. and ice climbers have been taking advantage of the icy temps. Lyle Knight and Gary Wolcoff climbed a new 18-metre WI3+ called Kal Pillar on the Okanagan Trail in central B.C. When the waterfalls in the Okanagan Valley are freezing, you know it’s cold. The big WI6 called Mythologic on the Enderby Cliffs north of Skaha has been climbed a dozen times this year.

Drew Brayshaw, Shaun Neufeld, Gary Rowbotham and Marc-Andre Leclerc climbed a new 265-metre WI4 called Spitting Cobra at Ruby Creek Bluffs. The pitches are WI2, WI3, WI4 and WI2. Leclerc soloed along with the roped first ascent team. Other new routes from January include Waxed Gash WI3+ and Icy Jugs WI4+ M6. You can check out the ice conditions on the West Coast and see lengthier descriptions here.
