Tommy Caldwell and Adam Stack Climb Hooker Fast

Tommy Caldwell and Adam Stack have climbed Mount Hooker’s Jaded Lady, a 600-metre 5.12a, in a day car-to-car. They travelled 48 kilometres round-trip and Caldwell onsighted every pitch in their sub 20-hour push. In 2013, Whit Margo, John Dickey and Josh Wharton made the first all-free one-day ascent.

Margo wrote after for the American Alpine Journal here, “It’s worth noting that on the third pitch, a green 5.11 arête protected by bolts that all the bolts are old and rusty and some are totally worthless.

“Thankfully, someone had added a new 3/8-inch bolt to the anchor… We feel there are five or so pitches in the 5.10 to 5.12 range that warrant an R rating. We climbed the route in 13 pitches, the topo shows 16.”

On Caldwell’s social media, he wrote, “Adam Stack weight loss challenge 2016 included 30 miles of hiking and a backcountry big wall in under 20 hours. That was joyful masochism at its finest. I am proud of you buddy. Lets come up with one for next year.”
