Watch a Heady Deep Water Solo

One of the most incredible parts of deep water soloing is the thrill of exploration that the discipline offers.

New routing above the ocean doesn’t require bags of equipment, logistical planning or technical know-how, but rather a pair of shoes and a curious spirit.

It was this spirit that British climbers Neil Gresham and Mike Robertson embraced during their trip to the Italian island of Sicily.

The pair combed the island’s likely spots and while they found nothing that could compare to Ha Long Bay or Mallorca’s Cova Del Diablo, they did manage two exceptional, new climbs including a daunting roof route.

This climb in particular tested not just their physical skills, but their mental fortitude as well, with a fall from the top, 20 metres up, involving the very real prospect of a head-first splashdown.
